Press Release – Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ) CEO

 

6th April -Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ) has announced the appointment of Richard van der Jagt as their new CEO.  He has already assumed the position and started on Monday the 6th of March. Richard will succeed Ross Merrett, who stepped down as CEO of PENZ to become the Sport Development Officer for Surf Life Saving New Zealand in November 2016.

Richard holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Post graduate certificate in Business Research Methodology from the University of Waikato.

He comes to PENZ from a secondary and tertiary teaching and educational management background with superior business experience and skills. Richard has been employed as General Manager at Teaching-Education Management- Administration (TEMA) since the end of 2012.  TEMA specialized in working collaboratively with schools to break open new international markets such as Mexico and Colombia for international student recruitment.

Richard’s previous experience also includes among others Massey University and the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic nee (Toi Ohomai), in the roles of Business Development and International Manager, and formerly as the Business Manager for the establishment of Massey Worldwide. He has a wide experience of strategic planning and digital marketing skills.

Richard is looking forward building on the strong platform that PENZ has established to ensure that quality physical education is understood valued and practiced, particularly with respect to Maori and integrated learning across curriculum areas.

In private, Richard enjoys spending time on his family’s export avocado orchard, coaching and playing sports with his four children and partner Alison, who is a practicing GP with a focus on women and young people’s health.
